One of our goals at LearnCalifornia.org, is to present well-researched information in a variety of formats. Some items are in the form of documents from the California State Archives and the research collections of other institutions. There are links to web sites created by numerous archives, libraries, museums and historical organizations. In this California History section we will gather together information from all sources to talk about many of the great themes in California history.
The list of possible subjects is endless, but we have started with:
California Geography
Native California
Conquest of California
Gold Rush
California Becomes a State
First Transcontinental Railroad
Hydraulic Mining
Progressive California
Additional subjects will be added on a regular basis, so come back often for new stories about the State of California.
One of the best places to see the sweep and scope of California history is the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts in Sacramento. Located in the State Archives Building one block south of the State Capitol, it is a must-see attraction in California's capital city.
