"gold, Gold, GOLD!" The California Gold Rush, 1848 - 1864 |
|
The 1848 discovery of gold forever changed the area formerly known as Alta California. The cry of "gold, Gold, GOLD!" echoed through the streets of San Francisco, across the continent, and eventually, around the world. Thousands of people found their way to the canyons, ravines, and small valleys of the Sierra Nevada foothills, as well as to the watersheds of the Klamath, Trinity, and Shasta Rivers.
